WHO WE ARE
Foundation Software Technology is a technology consulting firm built around one principle: Clients deserve senior expertise on every engagement, not just during the sales conversation. We are a small, focused practice, and that is intentional.
Foundation Software Technology was founded in 1995 by Christopher Johnson, a technology consultant with over 30 years of hands-on experience across database administration, systems automation, and custom software development. Christopher has worked in demanding enterprise environments since the early 1990s, including 24×7 factory production systems, data warehousing operations, and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 validated pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
Christopher began his Oracle database practice in 1992, starting with Oracle Version 6, and has administered Oracle and other databases across a wide range of platforms and industries. He is an Oracle Certified Professional DBA for versions 7.3, 8.0, 8i, 9i, 10g, and 11g. His practice now spans Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, and Snowflake, with deep experience in AWS-hosted database environments including RDS and Aurora. He has earned AWS Certified Database Specialty and Snowflake SnowPro Core certifications, reflecting the depth of his work across cloud-hosted database environments.
Beyond database administration, Christopher brings deep experience in systems automation, data processing, and the kind of low-level technical investigation that complex legacy environments demand. He has served as both DBA and system administrator across Linux, Windows, Unix, and AWS environments, often as the sole technical resource responsible for the full stack.

Technical depth and specialization
Foundation Software Technology’s work is concentrated in the back end of the technology stack, where the data lives and the systems that move it operate. This is not a generalist practice. Our engagements typically involve complex data environments, legacy systems with significant operational history, and problems that require both breadth of experience and willingness to dig deep.
Database engineering
Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, and Snowflake administration and development, including schema design, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security, high availability, and application development in SQL, PL/SQL, and Python. On-premises and AWS-hosted environments including RDS and Aurora.
Systems automation
Custom tooling, data processing pipelines, scheduled job frameworks, data validation, and operational automation built in Python, Unix Shell, PL/SQL, SQL, and Java. AWS-native automation using Lambda, Glue, S3, and boto3.
Legacy system investigation
Structured analysis of under-documented systems, dependency mapping, business logic reconstruction, and risk identification for environments that have outlived their original engineering teams.
Knowledge capture
Documentation of systems, architectures, and operational processes using modern tools including AI-assisted analysis, turning institutional knowledge into durable organizational assets.
An engineering foundation
Christopher holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Penn State, a background that shapes how he approaches complex technical problems. Where most database and systems consultants developed their skills entirely within software, Christopher’s training spans hardware, firmware, and software, giving him a deeper understanding of how systems interact at every level of the stack.
This foundation proved directly relevant early in his career, when he designed and built software interfaces to laboratory instruments, automated test equipment, and production control hardware. That experience, combined with decades of enterprise database and systems work, informs the methodical, first-principles approach he brings to every engagement.
B.S., Electrical Engineering, Pennsylvania State University
Hardware, firmware, and software experience spanning laboratory instruments, automated test equipment, production control systems, and enterprise data infrastructure.
How we work
Every engagement at Foundation Software Technology is handled directly by Christopher Johnson. There are no account managers, no project coordinators, and no junior staff assigned after the contract is signed. When you engage Foundation Software Technology, you work with the same person throughout, from the initial conversation through delivery and knowledge transfer.
We are direct about the scope of our expertise. We take on engagements where we can deliver genuine value, and we are candid when a situation calls for a different kind of help. Our goal is a long-term relationship built on honest work, not a long statement of work built on overpromising.
